SDI & sync Field-tested
Blackmagic DeckLink in and out, field-tested at 1080p50 on a DeckLink Quad 2 with two live cameras.
Inputs
Camera inputs auto-wake at Play start - press Play and every configured camera opens; no
per-session ritual. Each camera is one set of assets under /Game/VSK/Media
(VS_Src_CamN → VS_MP_CamN → VS_MT_CamN), created by Studio Setup, and one shared player
feeds the billboard, the Video Hub and routing without double-capture. Per-input
Delay frames is a real ring buffer for lip-sync - the shadow and reflection lag with the
delayed image, staying coherent.
Program output
VS_Out_Program sends the program render to a free DeckLink connector. Color is
BT.709-correct - the recorded MP4 and the SDI feed match the viewport. The PROGRAM OUTPUT
card has Start/Stop, a LIVE indicator, device index, video mode, Fill/Key cycle and
auto-start-on-Play. GO LIVE on the console does sync + routing + output in one press.
Genlock & timecode
Built, hardware-untested. Apply Sync loads VS_Genlock_BM (Blackmagic custom time step)
and VS_TC_BM (timecode provider). These two are the last hand-made assets (their classes
need device pickers). Only required when the program feed enters a downstream switcher that
expects house sync.
Field notes - learned on real hardware
- On a DeckLink Quad 2, each connector is capture or playback - an input claim blocks output on that port, and sub-device “DeckLink Quad (4)” outputs on the last physical connector.
- An idle DeckLink port emits a black 1080p50 carrier - “the monitor sees a signal” never proves capture is live. Trust the
VSK output:log line and the health strip. - Disable PC sleep on show days.
